Dear colleagues, on 25 October 2026 Przystań Psychoanalityczna (Psychoanalytic Harbour), a Polish initiative founded by psychoanalysts and members of the International Psychoanalytical Association, will host an international online lecture by Howard B. Levine, entitled Beyond the Pleasure Principle.
The lecture will be delivered in English and is open to international participants. Live Polish interpretation will also be available.
Freud’s Beyond the Pleasure Principle marks one of the major turning points in the history of psychoanalysis. By introducing the second topography of the mind, Freud laid the foundation for later theories concerned with those aspects of psychic life that elude representation, symbolizatipn, and conscious thought.
It was from this work that Winnicott, Bion, Green, and the Paris Psychosomatic School drew inspiration as they developed new ways of understanding psychic transformation, emotional regulation, and the realm of unrepresented experience.
